The replacement of the crankshaft pulley by a more modern aluminium pulley has mainly a cosmetic function, but there is a much more important advantage, the weight of this type of pulley is much lower which allows to increase the power of the engine. The pulley mentioned here has a diameter of 170 mm, it is a size that was originally only used on a 1200 and 1300 cc engine. The 1500 and 1600 cc engines were equipped with a 177 mm pulley to obtain a higher cooling power, to support the higher engine displacement. A pulley with a lighter weight and smaller diameter is the key to getting the maximum engine power, so these 170 mm pulleys are frequently used on 1500 and 1600 cc engines. However, there is a disadvantage: the cooling capacity is reduced by the smaller diameter, which is why 1500 and 1600 cc engines are not mentioned in the application overview. The scale, which allows a much more precise adjustment than the original, indicates both the upper dead center (TDC: top dead center) and the lower dead center (BDC: bottom dead center).
