The Karmann Ghia is the only Volkswagen whose side windows are not equipped with window pillars. The window closes against the rubbers mounted in the roof line and the side window pillar. Due to this construction, the door rubbers consist of several parts: the rubber that is clamped into the door rebate, a rubber that is glued against the door pillar (hinge side), a rubber that seals the door glass that is mounted in the roof line and the rubber that is in the rebate of the rear side windows.
You can clearly see that the design of the car does not come from Volkswagen but was developed by Karmann. Door rubbers are never glued on classic Volkswagens, whereas Karmann did it mostly on door rubbers.
Note: If you have a convertible version, the door rubbers around the door windows are different from those of the coupé version. They are mounted on the hood roof frame and part of the windscreen pillar.
